Bobby Blanchard
Bobby Blanchard, 50, of Arlington, a loving husband, father, son, brother, friend and zealot of life passed away on Saturday, March 17, 2007, from injuries sustained in a plane crash. He passed on from this world doing something he loved. He truly lived the credo “Seize the day.”
Bobby was born on March 16, 1957, and grew up in Ryan, Oklahoma. He graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a degree in petroleum engineering. His biggest accomplishment in college was attracting the attention and love of Jan Lee Cozort, his best friend and wife of 24 years.
Bobby worked for Texas Oil and Gas in Shreveport and was then transferred to the Fort Worth office. With his innate ability to find the perfect location for anything, Bobby selected Arlington in which to start their new life. Since Jan found work in Dallas, neither of them would have far to drive.
He later worked for Snyder Oil Company in Fort Worth. Bobby then took one of the greatest risks – and leaps of faith – and quit his job to help Jan start a graphic design company, Blanchard Design. Now 20 years later and with the addition of partner Ken Schaefer and a new name, Blanchard Schaefer Advertising & Public Relations, the agency is more than successful. His logical engineer mind combined with his adventurous “just try it” attitude made him a force of nature with the ability to bring all types of people together and motivate them for success.
Bobby found the greatest role of his life to be that of fatherhood. His 15-year-old fraternal twins, Zane and Maris, were the center of his universe. He would just beam when telling others how proud he was of them. It was his goal to always teach them something so they would have a love for knowledge and discovery just as he did.
A student of the world, Bobby loved to travel and took advantage of every opportunity to take Jan on some new exotic adventure. Bobby would just pick a place on the map and then simply go there. It always worked out for him and he had better vacation stories than anyone else. This past summer, he began instilling that love for travel in his children with a trip to Italy.
Bobby was a knowledge seeker and became an expert in many things, including earning his blackbelt in Kali, which is a Filipino martial art.
He was a cheerleader for the entrepreneurial spirit, joining the Dallas chapter of the Entrepreneurs Organization (EO) in 1999. EO is a global organization providing a network for entrepreneurs to collaborate with each other. Bobby took on increasing levels of responsibility it the organization, becoming its president in 2005. He had just completed his term as president and was becoming the area director for the organization. Bobby was a true innovator, launching several new programs and initiatives that will affect entrepreneurs not only in the Dallas area, but worldwide. Bobby was passionate about the relationships he built in EO. He became a friend to all who met him and was know for his quick wit, his smile and his ability to bring out the best in everyone around him.
He was truly a friend to many and a stranger to few. He always had an unforgettable smile on his face and an infectious laugh. He remembered birthdays and facts about people and was always reaching out to make those in his life feel special.
Bobby was a husband, father, son, brother, colleague, role model, teacher and friend. He will be greatly missed.
His father, Robert L. Blanchard Sr. preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife, Jan Blanchard of Arlington, children, Zane and Maris also of Arlington; mother Theresa Blanchard of Ryan, Oklahoma; brother Rick Blanchard of Oklahoma City; sister Chata Blanchard of Oklahoma City; and a host of loving friends.
All the happiness there is in the world comes from thinking about others. And all the suffering comes from preoccupation with yourself.
